Until the mining and smithing rework, there's not much else you can do than granite, the Fallen Star minigame and Divine Mining Spots. Lava Flow Mine isn't the best xp, but it's very AFKable, so getting the Dwarf quests and mining requirements out of the way will help a lot.

Recently I came across a thread stating it was possible to get 230k/hr at the Lava Flow Mine; however I could not find any information about whether this is true or not as most articles are outdated since it's recent update. Participating in the Lava Flow Mine minigame can make for a nice change of pace from standard Mining (level 68 Mining and completion of the King of the Dwarves Quest required). Mining in the Lava Flow Mine is relatively unintensive, although the experience rate isn't quite as high.

The Possessed pickaxe is a monster that features in the Lava Flow Mine, where it is a distraction from regular training in the mine, along with boiler breakdowns, TzHaar heroes, and the Liquid gold nymph.After the pickaxe is defeated, a Dwarven ancestor spirit appears; the player who killed the pickaxe will get at 10% boost of mining experience in the mine for 10 minutes if they speak to him.

Here you will go mine a large amount of ether coal or gold form the Lava Flow Mines. This is the only place in Runescape where you can mine more the one coal ore or gold ore from a vein. This area is now the fastest place to level mining to 99. Now the best place to do this on is world 77 which is the home world for Lava Flow Mines.

The Lava Flow Mine. Just within the entrance to the Mine, Foreman Jaak awaits adventurers looking to help. Talk to him, and he'll explain that particular segments of the lava channels which make up the power plant sometimes cool, causing for the lava to harden and form a crust; the crust creates a blockage which inhibits the flow of lava, and must be mined away for the plant to function properly.
